BEVERLY HILLS, February 15, (THEWILL) – Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State, his Gombe State Counterpart, Mr. Ibrahim Dankwabo, and the immediate past Benue Governor, Mr. Gabriel Suswam have revealed that efforts were being made by top members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to reorganize the party in order for it to reclaim the control of power in 2019.
The trio, who separately spoke over the weekend at the burial of the grandmother of Suswam, Aya Nguyemen Tor-Najime, at Tse Tor-Najime, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, disclosed that the party is being repositioned for efficient performance that would lead to its resurgence in the next circle of elections.
Revealing that the PDP would capitalize on the failings of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to assume leadership of the country in 2019, they insisted that the PDP performed creditably despite the negative picture being painted about the party by the ruling party.
The PDP big wigs however admitted that it would be left to Nigerians to decide which party will lead them at the appropriate time.
In the words of Dankwambo, “What we are concerned with for now is to ensure nation-building and not politicking, but whether we are building Nigerian or not is for Nigerians to say, whether the economy is growing or shrinking is also left for Nigerians to say at the appropriate time.
“For 16 years, the PDP provided a level playing field for all political parties to thrive, so, if any party will think it will extinct the PDP, it is left to be seen. I am saying it with a loud voice that this calibre of people who came to Aso Villa by chance will leave at the next election.”
Udom, on his part, praised the resilience of the PDP members who have continued to rally behind Suswam and the party in the state even as he expressed optimism that the party was still as strong as it used to be.
The Akwa Ibom Governor argued that with the level of development provided by the former governor in the state, the people would realise the mistake they made and return the PDP to power in 2019.
