SAN FRANCISCO, August 31, (THEWILL) – The newly registered Peoples Democratic Party (PDM) has hailed what it described as “brave, bold and patriotic stand” of the seven Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other aggrieved members of the party, who all stormed out of the PDP’s special national convention on Saturday at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
The Governors are: Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and Sule Lamido (Jigawa).
They later held a splinter convention at the Musa Yar’Adua Center where they announced the emergence of a factional leadership and installed Abubakar Baraje as National Chairman and Olagunsoye Oyinlola as National Secretary. Dr. Sam Jaja was also appointed Deputy National Secretary.
A statement by the PDM’s national chairman, Mallam Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim saluting them said, “We appreciate their bold, brave and patriotic stand of these delegates for refusing to participate in an election which they knew gave no even playing ground to all stakeholders.’’
He also added that the “PDM stands shoulder to shoulder to shoulder with all true democrats.”
