September 28, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen played out a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena, ending Bayern’s perfect start under new manager, Vincent Kompany. The result keeps Bayern three points ahead of Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race.
Leverkusen struck first in the 30th minute when Robert Andrich scored from Granit Xhaka’s assist. Bayern equalised before half-time through a spectacular long-range volley from Aleksandar Pavlovic.
Bayern dominated possession and chances, particularly in the second half. Serge Gnabry hit both the post and crossbar in quick succession, while Lukas Hradecky made key saves to deny Michael Olise and other Bayern attackers.
The draw maintains the status quo at the top of the Bundesliga table. Bayern are aiming to reclaim the title after Leverkusen ended their 11-year championship streak last season. Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso will take confidence from the fact that his team went on to win the league after drawing this fixture last year.
