August 27, (THEWILL) – Organisers of the Paris Paralympics have reported strong ticket sales ahead of the Games’ opening. Over two million tickets have been sold, with 500,000 remaining available for purchase.
Paris 2024 President, Tony Estanguet, and International Paralympic Committee President, Andrew Parsons, shared the news at a press conference on Tuesday. Estanguet expressed satisfaction with the sales figures, stating that the stadiums will be full.
The most popular events include blind football, taekwondo, track cycling, shooting, triathlon, and equestrianism. In response to high demand, additional tickets were released on Monday, for events at iconic venues like the Grand Palais and Palace of Versailles.
Many Olympic venues have been modified to improve accessibility for people with reduced mobility. Parsons noted that spectators often react with surprise when first watching Paralympic sports, before forming a connection with the athletes and their performances.
Organisers remain optimistic about further ticket sales, with Estanguet mentioning that tickets will continue to be available throughout the Games, similar to the Olympics. The Paris Paralympics begin on Wednesday, with an opening ceremony in central Paris.
