Ozil Proposes To Pay Mascot, Gunnersaurus Wages To Stay At Arsenal

SAN FRANCISCO, October 06, (THEWILL) – Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, has proposed to pay the wages of Arsenal’s mascot, who was recently sacked by the club.

The German midfielder announced this on his Twitter page on Tuesday.

THEWILL writes that the face behind the costume is Jerry Quy and has been the iconic mascot for the Gunners for the past 27 years until his sack this week by the Arsenal management in a bid to trim costs following the revenue dip due to the coronavirus.

The London club said Quy’s services were no longer needed as supporters no longer come to the stadium due to the pandemic.

Ozil, however, said that he would pay the mascot’s salary for as long as he is an Arsenal player.

“I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous & loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years,” he wrote.

“As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player, so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”
