June 21, (THEWILL) – Abia State Government has named Innocent Oweh as the Acting Chairman of Abia Warriors, one of the prominent football clubs in the state.
Oweh, a dedicated individual, who has been associated with the club for over two decades, is currently serving as a Principal Officer in the State Civil Service. This appointment comes as the Government awaits the formation of new Boards for the four clubs it supports in the state, namely Enyimba, Abia Warriors, Abia Comets, and Abia Angels.
The confirmation of Oweh’s appointment was made during a meeting with the club’s Management and Staff. Chinedu Ekeke, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports, reiterated the Government’s directive, emphasising that Oweh would lead the club until the new Boards are constituted. Ekeke urged all staff members to rally behind the Acting Chairman to take the club to new heights.
Expressing his gratitude, Oweh acknowledged his appointment as an act of God and a decision approved by the State Government. Speaking about his long-standing involvement with the club, he said: “I have been in the club right from its inception. We started the club as OUK from the lower division until it gained promotion to the NPFL. I have worked in various departments of the club, and with the personnel we have, we can achieve great things.”
He also stressed the importance of promptly executing the Government’s directives and expressed his determination to ensure the club’s success, when the league resume.
