Osimhen’s Stunning Volley Propels Napoli To Victory Over Roma

January 30, (THEWILL) – Napoli extended their lead at the top of the table to 13 points with a hard-fought victory over Roma with the sensational Victor Osimhen scoring another stunner.

The Partenopei had the opportunity to extend their lead with a full squad, including the return of Kvicha Kvaratskhelia from illness. The game started with both teams battling for control, with Kvaratskhelia having a chance to score in the first few minutes but for Rui Patricio.

Napoli took the lead in the 17th minute through their fantastic forward Osimhen. Mario Rui threaded a pass through to Kvaratskhelia, who floated a cross to the back post where Osimhen controlled with his chest and volleyed it into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Roma had their best chance at half-time when Lorenzo Pellegrini pulled back from the by-line but Alex Meret was able to palm it round the post.

However, Roma did eventually get their equalizer when Nicola Zalewski whipped a deep cross from the right and El Shaarawy flicked it in with the outside of his right boot. Napoli then came back with a counter-attack and after a period of possession, managed to spread the Roma defense and create a yard of space for Giovanni Simeone to score the winning goal. Another substitute, Giacomo Raspadori, also had a chance to add a third but was saved by Rui Patricio.

Roma will look to return to winning ways when they host Cremonese, while Napoli will travel to Spezia to keep their form going towards the Scudetto.
