February 04, (THEWILL) – Napoli extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table to 16 points with a man-of-the-match display by Victor Osimhen, in their comfortable 3-0 win against Spezia at the Stadio Alberto Picco, on Sunday.
A first half that lacked any clear-cut chances saw a change in momentum just a minute into the second half when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia coolly converted a penalty that was gifted to Napoli from a defensive error by Spezia.
Victor Osimhen also took advantage of another defensive mistake and scored his fifth league goal in a row, with another goal following soon after when the two goalscorers linked up to finish Spezia off, with Kvaratskhelia teeing up Osimhen for a tap-in. This victory not only extends Napoli’s lead at the top of the Serie A table but also solidifies their position as the favourites to lift the title come the end of the campaign.
For Spezia, a third consecutive defeat means they miss the opportunity to pull away from the relegation zone, and the five-point gap to 18th-placed Hellas Verona could be overturned if they do not start collecting points again soon.
While the pressure is on Spezia to turn their season around, Napoli will look to continue their winning streak and extend their lead even further at the top of the table when they meet Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke’s Cremonese at home next Sunday.
