September 27, (THEWILL) – Napoli returned to winning ways in Serie A with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Udinese at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday night. Victor Osimhen put the social media storm surrounding him behind him by scoring the second goal in the first half.
The hosts made a fast start and were awarded a penalty after just 15 minutes when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was fouled in the box. Unlike Sunday, it was Piotr Zielinski who stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to make it 1-0. Napoli were dominant and Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia and Mario Rui all went close before Osimhen doubled their lead six minutes before the break. Matteo Politano slipped the ball through to the Nigerian and he drilled clinically past Marco Silvestri.
After his spot-kick troubles at the weekend, Osimhen was reluctant to celebrate at first but the goal stood and the striker embraced his teammates in front of a jubilant home crowd. The points were sealed midway through the second half when Kvaratskhelia pounced on a poor touch from Jaka Bijol and slotted home from close range for 3-0.
Lazar Samardzic pulled one back for the visitors but Napoli immediately restored their three-goal cushion, as substitute Giovanni Simeone headed home Kvaratskhelia’s pinpoint cross. The comprehensive victory lifts Napoli to fifth in Serie A while ending their three-match winless run in the league.
