May 28, (THEWILL)- Nigerian striker, Asisat Oshoala’s incredible bicycle kick for Barcelona against Benfica has been named the 2023/24 UEFA Women’s Champions League Goal of the Season. UEFA’s Technical Observer panel selected the acrobatic effort as the best of the campaign’s standout strikes.

Barcelona teammate Aitana Bonmatí took second place with her bending shot in the quarter-final second-leg win over Brann. Lyon’s Delphine Cascarino came third after her long-range quarter-final goal against Benfica.

The other memorable goals making the top 10 included efforts from Justine Kielland (Brann), Melchie Dumornay (Lyon), Caroline Graham Hansen (Barcelona), Erin Cuthbert (Chelsea), Olivia Schough (Rosengård), Marie Alidou (Benfica) and Marie-Antoinette Katoto (Paris Saint-Germain).

Oshoala’s winning goal came in Barcelona’s 5-0 group stage thrashing of Benfica on November 14, 2024. The Super Falcons star dialled in on a cross from her teammate next to the corner flag and executed a sublime overhead kick that squirmed past the Benfica keeper in the net.

While Barcelona will go on to lift the women’s UEFA Champions League trophy for a second straight season, Oshoala moved on in a transfer to the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States with extension side Bay FC, which is currently undergoing a turbulent season after starting brightly with an Oshoala goal.
