Oromoni’s Death Is Natural But Avoidable – Coroner

April 15, (THEWILL) – The Coroner, sitting in Ogba Magistrate Court, says Master Sylvester Oromoni Jnr., a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, died a natural death.

In a 255-page judgement delivered on Monday, by Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri, the Coroner held that Oromoni’s death was avoidable but the negligence of his parents and the medical team to pay serious attention to his enlarged liver.

However, “my condolences to the family and their friends. I pray that God comforts you for this great loss and make things easy for your family”, said Kadiri as he cleared Dowen College and its students accused of complicity in the death of Master Oromoni Jnr.

Oromoni, a student at Dowen College, Lagos, died in November 2021, after he was allegedly beaten by five colleagues. His parents had claimed that the deceased confessed before his death that he was attacked and fed a chemical.

While the school dismissed the allegation and claimed the boy sustained injuries playing football with his friends, a discredited autopsy initially declared that Oromoni died of “acute lung injury due to chemical intoxication.”

The case has been under inquiry since 2022, while the bereaved family said they would pursue it up to the apex court.
