November 16, (THEWILL) – A Group within the Labour Party (LP), Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC), has called on the leadership of the party to organise Ward, Local Government and State Congresses, as well as a National Convention, to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

LPPMC said it is not satisfied with the performance of the party in the three off-cycle governorship elections conducted in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa, last Saturday and said all efforts should be put in place to get the party ready for future elections.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday in Ibadan, LPPMC National Spokesman, Dexter Femi Akin-Alamu and the South West Coordinator, Architect Folu Bademosi, said the body is not a faction of the LP, but a group within the party which, wants the party to prepare itself well ahead of future elections.

The group said the Congresses will provide opportunity for both new and long-standing members to actively participate in selecting leaders who align with the aspirations of a new Nigeria.

Akin-Alamu said, “LPPMC is, therefore, requesting the present leadership of the Labour Party to immediately call for the following:

“A comprehensive and transparent national convention to be conducted, allowing members to democratically elect leaders who reflect the collective vision of the party; a similar Democratic process to be implemented at the state level, ensuring that leaders are chosen in alignment with the values and goals of the Labour Party.

“Local government Congresses must be held to empower members at the grassroots level, enabling them to select leaders who understand and represents the unique needs of their communities and a democratic and participatory ward Congress to be conducted, allowing members to choose leaders who will champion the interests of their respective wards.

“By embracing this Democratic reform, we aim to foster unity, inclusivity and accountability within our party”, Akin-Alamu said at the press conference

The group said though it disagreed with the judgement of the Supreme Court, which upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu, saying the judgement failed to serve justice for the good people of Nigeria, but said it acknowledged the supremacy of the constitution and respected the final say of the Supreme Court in such matters.

The group also vowed to continue to engage with the Democratic process, upholding the principle of the rule of law and the constitution.

Speaking on the mission of the LLPMC, the South West Coordinator, Architect Folu Bademosi said: “The Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress, (LPPMC) is a committed group within the Labour Party of Nigeria, dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, equity and inclusiveness within the party.

“LLPMC’s mission is to support credible officers and candidates at all levels of government, ultimately building a better Nigeria for all.

“LLPMC is deeply passionate about the Labour Party and Nigeria’s political landscape and we are totally committed to the prosperity of Labour Party.

“LLPMC believes in a brighter future for Nigeria, where the people play a vital role in nation-building. The Labour Party has been chosen as the vehicle for, and change and we are committed to nurturing this awareness for the betterment of our nation.
