OPINION: THE MAN DIED

In case you haven’t heard, the man died last night.

He was a man of many ways – strong, unrepentant and boisterous. He bestrode this land like a colossus, trampling on ordinary Nigerians with ease. With the gift of the garb, he smoothly talked his way out of trouble. If this was not possible, he simply wrote a cheque knowing most of us have a price. Justice, fairness and equity were strange terms to him, except when he is fooling us with sweet words. As slippery as a snake, he knew how to buy our soul with stomach infrastructure, festering our delusions that he is our messiah. With impunity he broke the rules, daring any of us to moan. Bereft of any conscience, he stole from the poor and gave to his rich friends. Tales of his exploits and brazenness will be told for ages to come. How he looked immortal and sounded like we were united with him forever!!!

He had been on admission in hospital since March 28th when he suffered cardiac arrest. Despite the gloomy nature of his condition, he was still being fooled by petulant doctors who were administering all sorts of fake drugs that were costing a fortune, in the process lining their deep pockets. Never mind that their pockets was already bulging with proceeds of numerous sinister operations. Many doomed prescriptions were administered. Prophets and marabouts were called to pray for him, marathon fasting were held in the usual Nigerian manner. All the while the Messenger of death looked on, with an amused grin on his face wondering why the old geezer will not accept his fate. Alas, the necessary end came as it was destined.

Please be vigilant as we have heard that he may be resurrected again after a few days, men like him should never be heard of or seen in this land again. Many will swear he was divine and only went into a deep slumber to rise very soon. We pray that he is gone eternally to rot in hell where he belongs.

Shout it about in the streets, proclaim it above the roof tops, behold how are the mighty fallen!!!

His name was “the old Nigeria”.
