November 05, (THEWILL) – Genk defeated Charleroi 4-1 to earn their ninth straight victory in the league, a first in their history.
In-form Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu scored a perfect hattrick, with his right and left feet and his head. He also added a late goal in a spectacular Man of the Match performance.
The goals bring Onuachu’s haul for the season up to 12 in 13 matches played so far. It is wildly reminiscent of the fiery form that the 28-year-old had two seasons ago when he took the Belgian top division by storm and won the Belgium division golden shoe award for scoring 29 goals for Genk.
Since their loss in the opening match of the season, the Pro League-leading Limburgers have gone undefeated.
With four goals from Onuachu, Genk has consolidated first place with 43 points in 16 games, a 10-point advantage over Antwerp before the latter hosts Anderlecht on Sunday. With 19 points, Charleroi is ranked eleventh overall.
