February 13, (THEWILL) – Racing Genk defeated Standard Liege 2-0 in a Belgian First Division A match at the Cegeka Arena (Genk) on Sunday afternoon, with Paul Onuachu helping his side with the second goal.
After recuperating from an unlucky hamstring injury that kept him out of the Super Eagles team that went on to score only six goals in four matches at the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the former FC Midtjylland star has seen his form improve since his return to the squad.
Onuachu scored against Union SG in his comeback game, then added an assist against Zulte Waregem the following matchday, but he did not score in the final match before Standard Liege’s visit.
On Sunday, the Nigerian international thought he had broken the deadlock after only one minute against Standard Liege, but his header was ruled out for offside after a lengthy VAR review.
Onuachu made things simpler for Genk with his second goal of the game eight minutes into the second half.
After a terrible blunder at the back by Standard Liege defender Moussa Sissako, the number 18 slid home, bringing his league tally to fourteen goals.
It was a memorable one for the huge forward as it was his first goal against Standard Liege in his sixth outings against the Reds.
