One Dead As Police Arrest Four Attackers Of Igama Community In Benue

June 16, (THEWILL) – Operatives from the Benue State Police Command has arrested four out of some Fulani herdsmen, who attacked Igama community in Okpokwu local government area of Benue State on 12th June, during which scores were killed.

“Police teams deployed to the area in collaboration with other security agents have been on cordon and search operations within the forest.

“On 15/6/2022, at about 0500hrs, the attackers who were trapped in the bush engaged the police in a gun duel that led to the arrest of the following suspects in their hideout; Umar Nuhu, Dauda Alhaji, Musa Dako and Umaru Alhaji Sale.”

In a statement in Makurdi on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, Superintendent of Police, Sewuese Anene, said one of the suspects, Musa Dako sustained injuries and was admitted at St. Mary’s Hospital, Okpoga for treatment where he eventually died.

The statement which also confirmed that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital, added that other suspects are in custody for further investigation.

According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of police, Benue State command, CP Wale Abbas, has advised members of Igama community to remain calm and avail useful information to the police for necessary actions.

It will be recalled that suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded the said community last Sunday during which about fifteen residents were killed and several houses and business points were set ablaze.

Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom, APC governorship candidate in Benue state, Revd Fr Hyacinth Alia and senator representing Benue South, Abba Moro, have condemned the invasion, calling on security agents to intensify surveillance to avert future occurrence.

In a related development, suspected Fulani herdsmen at the early hours of Thursday, have shot death two brothers at Yogbo community in Guma local government area of Benue state.

An eye witness, Engr Aerguma said, the attackers who come without provocation also injured two others who are now on hospital bed.

The chairman of Guma local government area, Mr Caleb Abba, who confirmed the incident, gave the names of the victims as Moses Div and Jeremiah Div.

The council boss appealed to security agents to come to the aid of the people through constant patrols.
