Ohanaeze Mourns Biafra Warlord Maj-Gen Madiebo

August 27, (THEWILL) – Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide has described the passage of the former Nigerian Army officer and General officer Commanding (GOC), defunct Biafran Army, Major General Alexander Atta Madiebo, as a loss of life filled with unpretentiousness and modesty.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide.

According to him, Ohanaeze Ndigbo declared four market days of mourning in honour of Major General Alexander Atta Madiebo, in which Ndigbo is expected to honour him strictly in line with the established Igbo traditional rites.

“Alexander Atta Madiebo was a disciplined military administrator, who will be remembered for his fearlessness and bravery, and history will be kind to him for standing up for what was perpendicular in his career, as a result of the circumstances surrounding his time in history.

“Ndigbo joined peace-loving Nigerians to commemorate the life and times of Major General Alexander Madiebo, as he was laid to rest in his countryside at Umuokpu Awka, Awka North of Anambra on Friday, 26th August, 2022.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo declared four market days of mourning in honour of Major General Alexander Atta Madiebo, in which Ndigbo are expected to honour him strictly in line with the established Igbo traditional rites, cultural, and other burial ordinances, Nzeamalu, as he is fondly called, will be remembered for his adventurous outings in defence of the old Eastern region.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo modern library will be named after Major General Alexander Madiebo, in remembrance of his gallantry and chivalry during the Biafra War, and after the war, he lived a private life filled with humility and service in Christianity, may Almighty God forgive his shortcomings and grant his family, friends and Ndigbo fortitude to bear this loss”, the statement read.
