October 15, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State supervised by Kabiru Jauro-led PDP State Congress, on Monday, inaugurated its newly elected executives to steer the affairs of the party in the state for the next three years.
A factional parallel State congress was held on Saturday, where Hon. Abayomi Tella, loyal to former Governorship Candidate of the party in the 2023 elections, Hon Ladi Adebutu, emerged as State Chairman at the party’s Congress held at Abeokuta Sports Club.
Another, where Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, loyal to former Deputy candidate of the party, Abdulkabir Akinlade and Jimi Lawal, Governorship aspirant of the party in the 2023 election, was elected State chairman, and held at New Gate Hall, Abeokuta, OgunState.
But, addressing newsmen shortly after receiving a certificate of return from the Chairman Caretaker Committee, Dada Awoleye, as new authentic state chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, who dismissed the claim of factional PDP in the state, insisted that any parallel congress held without the approval of the National Headquarters in Abuja was null and void.
Tella maintained that the only acceptable state congress was the one which produced him and conducted by Kabiru Jauro PDP-led Congress, noting that any other state congress conducted outside the party’s constitution and law was done illegally and should be regarded null.
“I am tired of answering this question and I want to say that it is you press men that are creating this faction even where there is none. For the benefit of doubts in the face of a law that created the party called PDP and in compliance with that a particular Congress is done and it is legal Congress every other one is a nullity”, he stated
He stressed that the newly inaugurated executive would do everything possible to reposition and settle differences in the party ranging from aggrieved members and those who had decamped to All Progressive Congress and other political parties, to come back and unite to PDP for victory in the 2027 elections.
“Twins born the same day with the same umbilical cord have differences and where we have interests, there would be differences but to manage those interests is the major thing here and I think we’ve started.
“Have a team who is ready to go. We are going with that spirit to meet our people, even those in the other party who are currently suffering and smiling to tell them, come we built this together, so come back”, he added.
