Ogun, Oyo To Set up Joint Security To Combat Kidnapping On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

January 22, (THEWILL) – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State yesterday said that he was working on a joint security outfit with his Oyo Sate counterpart, Seyi Makinde, to combat kidnapping at the border town along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He equally announced his administration’s decision to wage war against cyber crime popularly known as yahoo yahoo by setting up a commission in the state to fight the financial crime and arrest culprits
Abiodun disclosed this while lunching OP MESA a joint security outfit at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta with 15 pick up truck, communion equipment and two armoured personnel carriers to combat crimes and tackle insecurity in the state and its environs.
OP MESA is a joint security internal outfit including: men from the Nigerian Army, the Navy, the police, the Civil Defense, the Department of State Security service, Amotekun and the Social Orientation and Safety Corps(So-Safe).
The governor said that he and Makinde had concluded plans to jointly provide security at border town of the both states to tackle kidnapping on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway corridors of their respective states
He stated that the Oyo State governor had promised to lead a team of his law enforcement architecture to his own state to have a meeting on how to arrest criminals involved in kidnapping on the highway bordering their states.
Abiodun, who recalled how two junior staff of the federal government agency and a popular actress were kidnapped on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, said that both state decided to set up the joint security to tackle the activities of kidnappers at border town along the road.
He, therefore, enjoined the officers to live up to their duties in securing the lives and properties of the people forpeaceful coexistence in the state adding that more vehicles would be provided for the state security outfit every quarters until they had enough to fight crimes in the state and its environs.
The governor said” I like to welcome everyone to the inauguration of OP MESA which is a joint internal security operational platform that comprises of men from the Nigerian Army, the Navy,the police, the civil defense, the department of state security service, our Amotekun and even So-Safe. This people are going to be jointly and collaboratively fighting crime in Ogun State.”
“Three days ago, i put a call to my colleague in Oyo and we have decided that we are going to jointly collaborate in the area of providing security at our border position between Ogun and Oyo State as a matter of fact he has decided he would lead a team of his law enforcement architecture to Ogun State where we can have a meeting of mind and plan the way further so hoodlums will not have a hiding place.”
“It is unacceptable that on January 8 2022, two junior staff of the federal government agency were reportedly kidnapped at Onigari Village on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Again some travellers, including a popular actress narrowly escaped being kidnapped on the same road just last Saturday this unscrupulous element have no place in Ogun State, they’re a threat to us and as responsible government we cannot afford to leave the lives of our citizens at the mercy of hoodlums.”
“We therefore owe it a sacred duty to ensure security, peace and public order in Ogun State. It is only in an environment guided by law and order that peaceful coexistence, political stability and socio-economic development and even leisure activities can thrive. We are determined and committed to investing more on security as no investment is enough to ensure that our state remain the safest place to work, to live and to play.” he added.
