BEVERLY HILLS, January 27, (THEWILL) – ThisDay publisher and Chairman of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Mr. Nduka Obaigbena has left the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), after voluntarily honouring the agency’s invitation on Tuesday, THEWILL has gathered from EFCC sources.
Obaigbena was invited to clarify issues surrounding the N670 million compensation he received from the federal government through the office of the National Security Adviser on behalf of his newspaper and at least 12 other newspapers in the aftermath of terrorist attacks at ThisDay’s Abuja and Kaduna offices, as well as the military’s clampdown on newspaper companies in northern Nigeria, which led to the disruption of circulation for a couple of days.
The publisher has severally maintained that the payments were legitimate and approved by former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
THEWILL understands that the management of ThisDay would release a statement on the development.
