Nwagua Lifts Rivers United Over Club Africain In CAF Confed Cup

December 10, (THEWILL) – After suffering a difficult 2-1 loss to Dreams FC of Ghana last week, Rivers United regained their drive in the ongoing 2023 CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a pivotal 1-0 victory over current Group C leaders, Club Africain of Tunisia.

The closely contested match, held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, brought Rivers United level on six points alongside Club Africain and Dreams FC, following Matchday 3 play of the Confed Cup group stage.

Veteran striker, Nyima Nwagua, proved the difference-maker for Rivers United, netting a timely goal in the 40th minute to elevate his club over the Tunisian leaders. Nwagua’s decisive strike rewards Rivers United for their tireless preparation and renders the Group C standings dead even as the competition moves toward its final stages.

The reversal of fortunes on home soil places Rivers United in good standing ahead of their upcoming CAF Confed Cup rematch with Club Africain on December 20 in Tunis, Tunisia. With their group survival hopes renewed, Rivers United will face a raucous away crowd in Tunis, where they must claim at minimum a draw to preserve strong positioning in Group C.
