NUJ Set to Honour Tompolo

February 04, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Union of Journalists is set to confer a national merit award on a former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.

The national leadership of the NUJ said the award is in recognition of Tompolo’s contribution to the war against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism. The formal presentation of the award will take place sometime this month.

Hailing Tompolo for his commitment to ending crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other sharp practices associated with exploration of crude oil and production, the NUJ leadership says it is impressed with his patriotic zeal to ensure that Nigeria works again by your pursuit of those pilfering the nation’s oil wealth.

The NUJ says it acknowledges the prevailing peace in the Niger Delta, for which Tompolo has played a pivotal role and it is for these significant contributions which he has made towards the nation’s growth and development that it decided to honour him with one of its prestigious awards.
