NSIB Probes Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment

May 27, (THEWILL)- The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) says it has launched an investigation into the Abuja-Kaduna train that derailed at the Jere corridor.

In an official statement issued at the weekend, the NSIB said it is aware of the derailment where some carriages were reported to have skidded off the tracks, adding that a go-team has been deployed to the scene.

“We are aware of the derailment of an Abuja-bound train from Kaduna, which occurred halfway into the journey at Jere. A go team has been deployed to the site of the incident,” the NSIB stated.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has assured passengers that normal train services between Kaduna-Rigasa and Idu-Abuja would continue despite the derailment.

It was earlier reported that the train, which had dozens of passengers on board, departed Kaduna around 8:05 a.m. but derailed at Jere about an hour later.
