August 14, (THEWILL) – The stage is set for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season, with the draws scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 17.
The new campaign will kick off 12 days later on Saturday, August 26th, according to a tweet by NPFL News on Monday. “12 days till the #NPFL returns. Draws for fixtures to take place August 17th. Transfer window closes September 1st,” NPFL News announced on social media.
In preparation for the upcoming season, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) appointed Gbenga Elegbeleye as the new NPL Chairman in Abuja, on July 20. Elegbeleye previously headed the Interim Management Committee (IMC) that oversaw last season’s league and playoffs, earning high praise for his leadership.
The current NPL champions are Enyimba International FC, who clinched their 9th league title after finishing top of the Super Six playoffs in June. The Aba Elephants drew 1-1 with defending champions Rivers United FC at Lagos’ Mobolaji Johnson Arena to seal the championship.
With the stage set for another exciting NPL campaign, fans will eagerly anticipate the upcoming fixture draw to learn their club’s schedule. Stakeholders will also watch to see if Enyimba can retain their title or if a new champion will emerge, especially with the giant strides made towards revolutionising the live viewing experience of football matches with the introduction of AI Cameras.
