July 31, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye, has announced a partnership with Spanish club, Sevilla FC, that promises financial benefits for NPFL clubs.
Elegbeleye, who travelled to Spain to formalise the collaboration, stated that NPFL coaches would receive training facilitated by Sevilla. This partnership could potentially lead to international opportunities for NPFL youth players, thereby ensuring financial stability for the clubs and reducing their dependence on government funding.
As part of the deal, a team selected during the NPFL Under-17 Youth League will embark on a training tour in Spain, hosted by Sevilla. This tour will provide international exposure to young players and an opportunity to showcase their skills to attract offers. Thirty players have been training in a camp at the FIFA Goal Project since July 21, preparing for this opportunity.
This partnership represents a significant step forward in the development of Nigerian football. The training and exposure provided by Sevilla could be a game-changer for the NPFL and its young players.
