October 22, (THEWILL) – An exciting match between Gombe United and Bendel Club ended 1-0 to Gombe, after a single goal in the second half. The game was tightly contested throughout, with both sides having chances but unable to break the deadlock until the 50th minute when Gombe’s Ahmed Jimoh popped up in the box to slot home the winner.
The first half saw few clear-cut opportunities. Gombe enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, but struggled to create openings against a stubborn Bendel defence. The teams went in at the break locked at 0-0.
After the interval, Bendel emerged rejuvenated and began to threaten on the counter-attack. On 50 minutes, the winning goal sent the home fans into delirium, as Jimoh found the net. Bendel responded positively and upped the tempo in search of a leveller.
As the game entered stoppage time, Gombe piled on the pressure to not only guard their lead, but increase the gap. However, there were no further goals but the fans were just as pleased.
The win sees Gombe United move up to 6th in the table on six points after four games. Bendel sit in 5th spot with six points from three matches played. Based on this showing, both teams will be looking upwards as the season progresses.
