July 30, (THEWILL) – The Kaduna State Government on Thursday said it would appeal the judgement of the State High Court on the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, who recently regained their freedom after six years of incarceration.

El-Zakzaky, along with his wife, was arrested in 2015 after a clash with the Nigerian army in Kaduna.

UHURU in the Swahili language means FREEDOM, but Kaduna State’s Director of Public Prosecution means to ensure that the El-Zakzaky do not enjoy their restored liberty for long.

The State Government in 2018 filed a range of charges, including aiding and abetting homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace against the couple.

THEWILL reports that the Kaduna High Court, had on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, thrown out the charges against El-Zakzaky and his wife The Court presided over by Justice Gideon Kurada, ruled that the prosecution failed to establish sufficient evidence against them

But in a fresh move on Thursday, the Kaduna State Government faulted the judgement of the court. The lead prosecution counsel, Dari Bayero, said there was no doubt that the government would appeal the case.

“We are going to appeal, there is no doubt about it, in fact, we have obtained the court judgement because we are not in agreement with my Lord’s reasoning and conclusion, it is not in consonance with the facts on ground,” Dari Bayero told newsmen on Thursday night.

While the Kaduna State Government prepares for another legal battle, El-Zakzaky and his wife have been flown to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, for medical attention.

Accompanied by family members and well-wishers, the couple arrived at the Kaduna International Airport at 8:30 am on Thursday, July 29 where they boarded a chartered flight to the FCT.

Meanwhile, the family of El-Zakzaky has expressed profound appreciation to Nigerians, the international community, his lawyers and the media.

A statement by El-Zakzaky’s only surviving son, Mohammed Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, described as heroes, those who marched daily in Abuja for five years to force the authorities to release the IMN leader.
