March 23, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army (NA) has dismissed reports that a soldier attached to the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), has been sacked for taking pictures in a colonel’s office.

An online medium had reported that the private soldier was accused of taking pictures, while seated in the superior officer’s office, a basis upon which he was sacked

The leaked message, allegedly sent by a commanding officer on WhatsApp to soldiers read: “Private soldier dismissed from service after taking a photo in a colonel’s office. Please, personnel should be warned because it’s getting out of hand.”

But refuting the claim, the director of army public relations, Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, said the soldier had not been sacked.

He, however, said the soldier was under investigation for alleged misconduct.

“There was an incident at NAUB, an officer travelled and a soldier got into the office, sat on the official seat and took those selfies.

“The reason for opening the office we don’t know; we are investigating him to unravel the motive behind such an act.

“Maybe he is going to use it to defraud people, but we don’t know, so he has to be investigated”, Nwachukwu said.
