December 27, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria National League (NNL) has responded firmly to incidents of assault during recent matches, fining two clubs for breaches of regulations.
Crown Football Club of Ogbomosho and Ikorodu City of Lagos have each been ordered to pay one million naira after their involvement in separate incidents contravening article 27.1.3 of the NNL rulebook.
The first incident occurred following Crown FC’s 1-0 victory over Solution FC of Awka. Crown’s General Manager, Olamide Ilupeju, encroached onto the pitch, directing verbal abuse and threats towards the referee. The confrontation escalated, requiring state FA officials and security to intervene.
The second incident involved Ikorodu City supporters at their match with Tradesafe FC. Missiles were thrown at players and staff, with security preventing further trouble.
Alongside the fines, Ilupeju and the Ikorodu supporters received final warnings about their conduct. Failure to improve could bring harsher punishment. The clubs have until January 6, 2024, to settle the payments. The NNL aims to stamp out such behaviour, stressing fair play and respect are paramount.
