June 23, (THEWILL) – After being chased by English Premier League duo of Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months, Christopher Nkunku has committed his immediate future to RB Leipzig by signing a new deal with the Bundesliga club that runs through the summer of 2026.

Although a release clause included to the contract will go into effect next summer, the Frenchman has effectively shut down speculations that he was on his way to star in the EPL next season.

Nkunku left Paris Saint-Germain for Leipzig in 2019 for a reported €13 million plus add-ons, but he later had a breakthrough season in a more advanced role in the 2021/2022 campaign. In 50 appearances, he scored 35 goals overall and added 19 assists for a total of 54 goal contributions.

PSG was interested in re-signing Nkunku this summer in addition to interests from United and Chelsea. Furthermore, Kylian Mbappe was especially eager to reunite with the 24-year-old in the French capital after he committed to the team and turned down a move to Real Madrid.

Leipzig made it plain that Nkunku will not be transferred this summer, although his release clause increases the likelihood of a transfer the following year.
