Nkunku Beat Lewandowski, Haaland, Schick To Player Of The Season Award

May 17, (THEWILL) – As talk over a move to the Premier League continues, RB Leipzig star, Christopher Nkunku, has been named Bundesliga Player of the Season for the 2021/2022 campaign.

Nkunku won the German top flight’s Player of the Month award four times – in October, February, March, and April – and has been awarded the season-ending trophy to crown it all.

Robert Lewandowski, Erling Haaland, and Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen, were all in the running, but only the Bayern Munich talisman had more direct goal involvements this season than Nkunku’s 20 goals and 13 assists in 34 league appearances.

Nkunku’s goal-scoring prowess and creative flair propelled Leipzig to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, where they were defeated by Rangers, and to fourth place in the Bundesliga. The Frenchman’s future is still up in the air, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal all apparently interested, with Leipzig adamant about keeping him.

On Saturday, Leipzig take on Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin and Nkunku will be looking for his first DFB-Pokal victory.
