January 22, (THEWILL) – In a dramatic match at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Arsenal secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Manchester United, restoring a five-point gap to Manchester City at the top of the English Premier League.
The Gunners, who kicked off just two points clear at the top, had seen City win twice since their last match, but a scintillating performance against United reestablished a more comfortable cushion.
United, who are also maintaining remote title hopes, scored first through Marcus Rashford, but Arsenal fought back with goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka to take the lead. United managed to level the score with a scruffy goal from Lisandro Martinez, but it was Arsenal who looked the more likely to score next.
With seconds remaining of normal time, Nketiah scored the winner for the Gunners, giving them surely their biggest win of the season so far. The victory is a huge boost for Arsenal as they look to maintain their position at the top of the league.
They are next in action in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Man City on the road next Friday. Man United, on the other hand, will be in EFL Cup action in the first leg of their semi-final clash away to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
