February 15, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s High-Altitude Athletics Club has registered 75 of its best runners for the upcoming Abuja International Marathon, marking a significant milestone for the country’s athletics.
Steve Nuhu, the club’s owner and one of the most successful long-distance coaches in Nigeria, stated that the team is ready to dominate the April 29, 2023, race with some of the country’s most exceptional runners.
Thirty of the registered runners are elite men and women, who have dominated Nigeria’s running circuit over the last decade and have performed admirably in competitions overseas. Among the registered elite male runners are Emmanuel Gyang Gwom, Adamu Shehu Mu’azu, and Gyang Boyi Nyango. The women’s elite group includes Deborah Pam Badung, Elizabeth Nuhu Power, and Blessing Shambor Solomon.
Nuhu expressed gratitude to Unicentral Resources Generation Limited, the licensee of the Abuja International Marathon, for providing the opportunity for a proper international marathon in the North.
He also appealed to the Northern Governors to support the development of athletics by making sports a part of the school curriculum. He believes that early exposure to athletics will help discover talents at a young age and create centres of excellence in each senatorial zone.
