Nigerian Star Oshoala Unfazed By Criticism Of Goal Celebration

July 28, (Thewill) – Asisat Oshoala remains undeterred by disapprovals of her goal celebration during Nigeria’s 3-2 victory over Australia in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Oshoala’s exhilarating performance saw her score the Super Falcons’ third goal, becoming the first African woman to score in three Women’s World Cups. However, her decision to remove her jersey in celebration and subsequent caution from the referee sparked contrasting reactions on social media, with some, including her father, disapproving her action.

In response to her father’s criticism, Oshoala took to Instagram to assert her stance: “My dad is definitely not happy with my choice of celebration but then again, life is a collection of moments.”

Although Australia’s Alanna Kennedy scored a late goal, the determination and skill of the Super Falcons saw them clinch victory and lead Group B with four points. The impressive performance of a Randy Waldrum’s squad has positioned them well in the tournament, and they now look forward to their final group match against debutants Ireland at Suncorp Stadium Brisbane.

A point in that match will guarantee their qualification for the Round of 16, and Oshoala’s goal-scoring will undoubtedly be crucial for Nigeria in their quest for further success in the tournament.
