Nigerian Goalkeeper Nnadozie Continued To Break Barriers In France

May 14, (THEWILL) – Nigerian 23-year-old goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, made history on Monday, by becoming the first African and Nigerian player crowned the best goalkeeper in the prestigious French D1 Arkema (women’s league). Her remarkable penalty-saving pedigree, which saw her save an impressive seven penalties this season, the highest tally in Europe, proved instrumental in her winning this coveted accolade.

Nnadozie’s exceptional performances between the posts for her club Paris FC, outshone stiff competition from esteemed counterparts like Christiane Endler of Olympic Lyon and Katarzyna Kiedrzynek of Paris SG. Her exploits in the UEFA Champions League further solidified her status as an elite shot-stopper, earning praise from Pierre Ferracci, the president of Paris FC, who lauded her as “adorable” and deserving of the recognition.

“Excited to have won the French D1 Arkema Goalkeeper of the Year. A big thanks to everyone, who voted for me and also a special appreciation to my coaches and teammates for all the support and encouragement, to my amazing family and Naija fans Una too much. GOD DID”, an elated Nnadozie wrote on the social media platform X.

While Ferracci acknowledged the likelihood of Nnadozie attracting interest from other clubs during the summer transfer window, Paris FC remains determined to retain the services of their prized asset. She currently backstops a team sitting third in the league standings, eight points behind local rivals Paris Saint-Germain and 11 points adrift of leaders Lyon.

The Nigerian international’s recognition as the French D1 Arkema Goalkeeper of the Year, adds to her growing list of accolades, having previously been crowned the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023. With this historic achievement, Nnadozie cements her place in African and Nigerian football history, serving as an inspiration for aspiring goalkeepers across the continent and beyond.
