BEVERLY HILLS, October 22, (THEWILL) – A soldier has been killed by Boko Haram gunmen in an ambush on a highway in Borno State, THEWILL can report.
Although details of the incident which occurred Wednesday were sketchy as at press time, security sources said a soldier was killed along the Maiduguri-Biu Road as troops were travelling from Maiduguri to Damboa.
“Our troops were on their way to Damboa this morning (Wednesday) when the insurgents ambushed them. We lost one soldier,” the security source told THEWILL.
The attack,according to sources,was in retaliation to the killing of over 25 terrorists who tried to to recapture Damboa last Sunday night.
Last week, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff announced a ceasefire between the Boko Haram and the federal government. Latest clashes however show that the ceasefire has collapsed.
