Nigeria Takes 29th Position In New FIFA Rankings

BEVERLY HILLS, September 17, (THEWILL) – After more than six months of it’s disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FIFA’s monthly rankings of national teams returned on Thursday with the resumption of international matches.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria move up two places to break into the World’s Top 30 in the latest Rankings released by the World Football Governing Body.

Nigeria’s last international game was a 4-2 away win against Lesotho in the 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, played in November 2019.

A successful staging of UEFA Nations League matches had immediate impact on the rankings, which had remained unchanged since the 9th of April.

Only European teams took part in the Last International Window, with other Confederations expected to resume at the next window in October.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal are Africa’s top ranked team and 20th in the World.

Tunisia are 26th and 2nd in Africa, while the Super Eagles of Nigeria are 29th in the World and 3rd in Africa.

African champions Algeria, Morrocco, Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon , Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo make up the top 10 rankings of African teams.

Belgium retained it’s place as the World’s top ranked team ahead of World Cup Winners, France with South American Powerhouse, Brazil in third.

England are in fourth place , while European Champions, Portugal move up two places into 5th.

Uruguay, Spain, Croatia, Argentina and Colombia make up to the top 10.
