The Nigerian Army has already begun taking delivery of some locally manufactured armoured vehicles
August 16, (THEWILL) — Nigeria is intensifying efforts to strengthen its indigenous defence industry, with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria–D7G (DICON-D7G) advancing plans to establish local production lines for armoured vehicles, anti-drone platforms and other specialised military equipment.
The initiative, being pursued in partnership with Eagles International for Defence Systems, is expected to boost technology transfer, expand domestic manufacturing capacity and create hundreds of jobs, while reducing the country’s dependence on imported military hardware.
The Chief Executive Officer of DICON-D7G, Mr Osman Chennar, disclosed this while outlining the corporation’s plans to expand Nigeria’s defence manufacturing capabilities.
According to him, the partnership will facilitate the establishment of production lines in Nigeria and provide opportunities for the transfer of advanced defence technologies and technical expertise.

The delegation assessed various equipment, production systems and technologies that could support Nigeria’s expanding defence manufacturing ambitions.
Chennar said the partnership was expected to create employment for more than 200 workers, while also providing opportunities for about 100 retired military personnel.
He said the proposed production lines would enable Nigeria to manufacture a broader range of military equipment locally and, in the long term, position the country to supply defence hardware to other African countries.
Among the platforms targeted under the partnership are the Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle BR6, a modular multi-mission defence platform; Armoured Personnel Carrier cabin; 120mm manual mortar launcher cabin; and specialised medical evacuation and ambulance cabins.
