SAN FRANCISCO, November 13, (THEWILL) – Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa State, North Eastern Nigeria, which fell to the Boko Haram about a month ago, was Thursday retaken by the Nigerian military in a joint operation with youth vigilantes and local hunters.

Local sources told THEWILL that the residents of the town trooped to the streets in jubilation of their liberation, singing and giving thanks to God for delivering them from the hands of the terrorists.

Reliable sources in the town added that the heavily-armed insurgents were chased out of the town while many of them were killed by the combined team of the military, local hunters and Civilian JTF after a heavy battle that lasted several hours. The insurgents were said to have fled toward the Sambissa Forest as they were dazed by the mystic powers of the local hunters.

Thursday’s routing of the insurgents followed the confrontation at Maiha where over 80 insurgents were killed by local hunters . The insurgents were said to have been chased away from the 234 Army Battalion and other strategic security formations in Mubi as all the flags hoisted by the insurgents were uprooted and replaced with Nigerian flags. Currently, Mahia, Mubi and Vintim, the hometown of the Chief of Defence Staff ,CDS, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, have all been liberated.

Five Armoured Personnel Carriers and other heavy equipment were also said to have been recovered from the terrorists. The Palace of the Emir of Mubi which was taken over by the insurgents and made their spiritual headquarters was also liberated.

The local hunters and Civilian JTF who assisted the military were said to have been mobilised from Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Borno States by some Adamawa politicians who expressed the fear that the entire state may fall into the hands of the insurgents in less than a month if nothing urgent is done.
The routing of the insurgents was said to have been executed by a large number of fighters as the idea to mobilise local hunters and fighters was said to have been initiated by the Emir of Mubi whose Emirate was overrun by the insurgents.

Adamawa Sate governor, Bala James Ngillari , confirmed the liberation of Mubi, saying “the insurgents have been flushed out of Mubi and are on the run.”

According to the governor, “God is in this business of security in Adamawa State. You know in the last one week or so, the government has decided to be working with the vigilante group “Yan Baka” , Local Hunters and Civilian JTF. They have been working hand in hand with them.”
