BEVERLY HILLS, April 20, (THEWILL) – Nigeria has announced an extension of the closure of all international airports in the country by another two weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika tweeted the news Monday adding that only approved emergency and essential flights will be allowed to operative at the airports.
Sirika had previous set April 23, 2020 for the reopening of the three international airports in the country – Lagos, Abuja and Kano.
His Monday tweet: “As a result of the extension on lockdown by Mr President, it is no longer possible for us to open our airspace and airports for normal operations by the 23rd April 2020.
“They will remain closed for a further two weeks. This is subject to review as appropriate.”
Nigeria’s major domestic carriers have since shut operations nationwide at the local airports because of the pandemic.
