August 16, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has cast doubt over the futures of Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro and Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum.
This comes ahead of crucial qualifying matches next month for the national men’s and women’s teams. NFF president, Ibrahim Gusau, stated the Federation’s Technical Committee will evaluate Peseiro’s position and make a recommendation. Peseiro became Eagles coach in 2022, replacing Gernot Rohr. However, disputes with the NFF over unpaid wages have strained relations.
Gusau said: “I cannot confirm Peseiro will continue. We will consult our Technical Committee and hope Nigerians will be happy.” The NFF aims to resolve Peseiro’s situation prior to September’s AFCON qualifier. Despite leading Nigeria to AFCON qualification, Peseiro could still exit beforehand if talks collapse.
Similarly, Gusau was non-committal about Waldrum’s future after the Super Falcons’ World Cup Round of 16 run. Like Peseiro, Waldrum has contested unpaid wages from the NFF. Gusau stated they must wait for the Technical Committee’s guidance before appointing a potential new coach.
With Olympic qualifiers also approaching, the uncertain futures of Peseiro and Waldrum puts pressure on the NFF. Swift resolution is needed to avoid further issues. However, the Technical Committee has a tough task evaluating the coaches’ performances and the Federation’s strained relationships with each.
