March 12, (THEWILL) – Newcastle grabbed their first English Premier League win in eight weeks with a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
The game was a battle between two of the lowest-scoring teams in English professional football. Both managers opted for new-look forward lines, and it was Alexander Isak, who justified his selection, scoring the opener for Newcastle in the first half.
Wolves equalised in the second half through Hee-chan Hwang, but a swift change in tactics from Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, helped the Magpies regain control of the game. A late goal from substitute, Miguel Almiron, sealed the win for Newcastle, who scored more than one goal in a Premier League game for the first time since January.
The Magpies climbed up to fifth place in the Premier League standings with their hard-fought triumph. Their next match is against Nottingham Forest on Friday, while Wolves will face Leeds on Saturday.
