New Golden State Warriors Contract Extension For Stephen Curry Makes NBA History

August 04, (THEWILL) – The trade season in the National Basketball Association (NBA) has proven that the “Steph Curry magic” is not going anywhere else, any time soon after the face of the Golden State Warriors, their talismanic Stephen Curry agreed to a new four-year, $215 million contract extension.

In a breakdown, the deal extension places his annual earnings for the following years as: 2022-23: $48.0 million 2023-24: $51.9 million 2024-25: $55.7 million 2025-26: $59.6 million, while keeping to the Rules of the CBA that allow the first year salary to be 105% off the prior years salary even if it exceeds the maximum allowed in total.

It comes as a fulfillment of what the 33-year-old had called “a huge goal” which was to play his entire career with the Warriors, the team that selected him out of Davidson with the number seven overall pick of the 2009 NBA draft.

After productive conversations with the club management about extending his contract, Curry was convinced it was good to continue with the Warriors. He noted what it was about: “It’s just understanding what the landscape is and what the situation is going into the future.

“We want to be competitive, we want to be in a situation where we’re competing for championships every single year. I want to be a part of it.”

The breakdown reveals how much of a brow-raising contract he got, but the 33-year-old is the cornerstone of the franchise for a reason. And, he is a major reason the Warriors were able to build a modern-day dynasty that won three championships with him as one of its biggest anchors throughout.

Curry is arguably the best three-point shooter in NBA history and his play brings such presence to the game that he can change the outcome just by being on the floor. And, because defenders have to pick him up 30-plus feet from the basket, he creates more opportunities for the team to take wins.

This fact alone opened up shots for the likes of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant and others throughout the championship runs and the statistics bear witness the moment he is absent from play.

The 33-year-old is already a Hall of Famer as a three-time champion, two-time league MVP, seven-time All-NBA selection, two-time scoring champion, steals champion and seven-time All-Star in a packed resume that is enviably loaded.

Curry will continue adding to it as a member of the Warriors for the foreseeable future following this deal which was historic in itself as Curry became the first player in NBA history to sign two deals worth more than $200 million. He has earned it all.
