BEVERLY HILLS, April 05, (THEWILL) – In commemoration of the 2021 International Women’s Day themed Choose To Challenge, Netflix has released the sum of N1.9 billion ($5 million) from its Creative Equity Fund Account set up in 2017, to cater for programmes that will groom, develop and upgrade women in the entertainment industry.

Also, a total of $20 million was recently allocated for the entertainment industry across nations. More so, Bela Bajaria, the recently appointed Head of Global TV, Netflix, also confirmed that the fund will be disbursed annually in the next five years to position underrepresented communities for success in the movie industry and also provide Netflix programs that will assist in identifying, training, and consequently providing employment for fresh talent globally, particularly in Africa.

The Nigerian film industry has experienced many ‘first females’: ‘First Netflix original film ever produced in Nigeria’ and ‘first time Nigeria had submitted a film to the Oscars’ and Netflix, and that has been the springboard to developing and showcasing Nigerian talent and stories to global audiences.
