December 23, (THEWILL) – Wilfred Ndidi was instrumental as Leicester City strengthened their position at the top of the Championship with a comfortable 3-0 victory against bottom side Rotherham United on Saturday. Second-half goals from Patson Daka and Cesare Casadei secured Brendan Rodgers’ side a fifth consecutive league win and extended their lead to six points.
Despite driving a low shot straight at Viktor Johansson from distance in a goalless first half, Ndidi provided the assist for Daka’s opening goal on the hour mark. The Nigerian miskicked the ball into Daka’s path after Johansson had saved Wout Faes’ initial effort.
Daka doubled Leicester’s advantage himself five minutes later, coolly slotting home from the penalty spot after being fouled by Johansson. Leicester’s victory was then wrapped up in the 72nd minute when substitute Casadei marked his arrival by heading home Ricardo Pereira’s pinpoint cross.
The emphatic win means Rodgers’ high-flying side have now scored three or more goals in each of their last four Championship encounters.
Meanwhile, Rotherham remain rooted to the bottom of the second tier on just 13 points, without a win in their last 11 league matches. The Millers have lost all games under recently appointed manager Leam Richardson.
