December 09, (THEWILL) – Leicester City strengthened their position atop the EFL Championship with a commanding 4-0 home victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. Striker, Stephy Mavididi, opened the scoring for the Foxes from the penalty spot in the 14th minute.

Patson Daka then doubled Leicester’s advantage four minutes after the restart with a composed finish. Mavididi grabbed his second goal of the afternoon in the 52nd minute before midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, rounded out the scoring three minutes later.

The emphatic result marked Leicester’s largest league win this campaign as manager, Enzo Maresca’s side continued their push for promotion. Maresca praised his team’s performance, saying “we completely deserved the three points” after controlling the match and creating numerous chances. He singled out Ndidi for his much-improved play in attack this term after shifting the Nigerian international into a more advanced role.

Meanwhile, Plymouth suffered their heaviest defeat this season, remaining winless in their last 10 away matches. Manager Steven Schumacher rued his side’s lack of quality in the final third but commended their effort against the league leaders. “As long as the players keep putting the effort in, which I know they are and our fans can see that they are, then we’ll be fine,” he remarked.

The match highlighted the gulf in class between the promotion-chasing Foxes, who boast the league’s best defense, and 16th-placed Plymouth. Leicester will look to continue their push for the English Premier League while the Pilgrims fight to avoid relegation.
