September 26, (THEWILL) – After lifting the Scudetto last season for the first time in over three decades, Napoli’s title defence has hit the buffers after a goalless draw at Bologna on Sunday saw more signs of unrest in the dressing room.
The Partenopei could only manage a barren draw against the Rossoblu, extending their winless league run to three games. Last season’s capocannoniere Victor Osimhen missed a decisive penalty in the 72nd minute and the 24-year-old reacted angrily when substituted not long after.
The Nigerian was caught on camera shaking his head at boss, Rudi Garcia, in the second show of dissent in two games after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also appeared frustrated when replaced recently and made his dissatisfaction obvious.
Club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis stoked tensions by tweeting “Napoli will start again from Bologna” after the game. The post was not well received among the fans, a cross-section of which began to demand the sack of the manager. Captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, sought to douse the stoking tensions by vowing to speak to the squad to avoid further issues just as Osimhen apologised for his reactions.
Napoli will aim to stop the rot at home to Udinese on Wednesday, before tricky games against Lecce and Real Madrid. But with Inter seven points clear already, their Scudetto defence looks in tatters unless they can raise the level of their performances and quickly too.
