September 28, (THEWILL) – Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has reportedly held talks with the club’s social media manager following the posting of a controversial TikTok video mocking striker, Victor Osimhen. The video was published after Osimhen missed a penalty in Napoli’s Serie A clash last weekend.
The Nigeria international was said to be angered by the video, with his agent, Roberto Calenda, threatening legal action against the club on Osimhen’s behalf. Napoli subsequently deleted the offending video and apologised.
De Laurentiis and the social media manager met at the Britannique hotel this week to discuss the incident. While the manager offered his apologies, Napoli’s president chose not to dismiss him from his role at the club.
The fallout from the mocked penalty miss has alerted English Premier League sides like Manchester United and Chelsea, who could look to sign Osimhen should relations between him and Napoli deteriorate further.
However, a January transfer seems unlikely with Osimhen set to be away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria early next year. Napoli also want to tie him down to a new contract before his current deal expires in 2024.
