August 17, (THEWILL) – Nollywood actress, Ibironke Ojo-Anthony, aka Ronke Oshodi Oke, says some of her previous relationships ended because of her career.
In a recent interview, Ronke said the parents of her ex-lovers rejected her because their sons cannot marry an actor.
The 49-year-old movie star also disclosed that her husband did not know about her profession until much later in their relationship.
“I used to have some relationships before I got married where they said they do not like actors.
“The parents said their sons cannot marry an actor. Of course, it made me feel bad because when you have a close relationship, you put your mind on certain things to do.
“But on meeting the parents, they start telling you that you cannot do this because you are an actor. It is like they do not see you as a normal human being.
“My husband never knew who I was before he married me. He lived here in Nigeria, but he never knew. He is not a film lover, he likes watching documentaries.
“So he did not know until one day when I went to greet him. I was going back home and people on the streets started saying Ronke Oshodi Oke.
“He asked why people were looking at me, I now said I am an actress. Up until now, he does not watch movies.”
In 2000, she came into the limelight after she was featured in a movie titled Oshodi Oke, from which she got her stage name.
Ronke and Anthony Gbolahan tied the knot in 2009.
