Murray’s Strong Start To 2023 Boosts Hopes For ATP Rankings Climb

February 22, (THEWILL) – Former world number one, Andy Murray, is eyeing a return to the French Open this year, as he aims to move up into the top 32 of the ATP rankings.

The Scot’s hopes were boosted by his victory over Lorenzo Sonego in the first round of the Qatar Open. Securing a seeded place in the Grand Slams is the ultimate goal for Murray and he plans to play in Rome, Madrid and hopefully, the French Open if his body is in good condition.

Murray has only made two appearances in the last six years at Roland Garros and is determined to make his mark this year. The 35-year-old began 2023 in a strong fashion, reaching the third round of the Australian Open. He relishes the prospect of taking on Alexander Zverev at the Qatar Open on Wednesday afternoon.

Zverev, who is the tournament’s fourth seed, is on the comeback trail after a bad injury at the French Open last year. Despite Zverev’s status as one of the world’s top players, Murray is looking forward to the challenge and is hoping to build on his recent form.

Murray said about his opponent: “He’s not quite at the level he was back in the middle of last year, but injuries like that take time. It will be another great match, hopefully, I can keep building on this one.”
